ALERO JASMINE | THE INTERVIEW

Alero Jasmine, a UK based handmade clothing line, which caught the attention of many (including myself) this summer. The girl behind it all; Aasiyah, a 20 year old geography undergraduate student. Inspired by her African heritage, Aasiyah captures her love for culture in each piece with an array of patterns and styles perfect for a summer vacation or adventure.
Aasiyah talks about her personal style, the challenges of running a business & the growth of AleroJasmine.

What was the vision when you created Alerojasmine & How did you bring it to life?
AleroJasmine is a true example of serendipity, I never specifically planned for it to happen. I liked making some clothes for myself, eventually sold them and things took off from there.
What's your favourite piece from the collection?
My red serene croptop, that was the first thing I ever made when I was about 15, the pattern and colour combination is just so striking to me.
Each piece is handmade, how long does one take?
It varies from 15 minutes to an hour for each item.
Biggest challenge along the journey of Alerojasmine?
Interacting with so many people on a daily basis can be a blessing and a curse for natural introverts.
Who is Alerojasmine?
A combination of my middles names!
Define your personal style.
Experimentative, refined & descriptive.
What does the future hold for Alerojasmine?
AleroJasmine will grow, reach more people & create more pieces. Creating/designing brings me so much joy I want that to continue and have more of an impact with my clothing.
Advice for anyone wanting to start a clothing line?
Have a plan, define what success is to you and aim for that. Believe in your product and be patient, volatility is going to become an everyday thing.
3 mantras you live by:
You belong to yourself.
